Basic techniques for working with tree leaves. The better to glue the leaves of trees on paper, the choice of composition and the rules for creating crafts How to glue the leaves to cardboard

The best option for gluing tree leaves to paper, cardboard is a do-it-yourself paste. In the creation of crafts, polyvinyl acetate mixtures (PVA), hot melt adhesives, special compositions for decoupage and even cyanoacrylate agents (superglues) are also used.

What glue to use

The choice of glue depends on the base on which the craft is attached and on the size of the composition.

starch paste

The basis of the paste is potato starch.

The mixture is safe, does not cause allergic reactions, has good adhesive characteristics.

Suitable for gluing leaflets to paper or cardboard. The paste is eco-friendly, odorless, so even a child can use it without strict parental control. Apply with a brush or sponge. Excess mixture is wiped with a napkin or a clean, dry washcloth.

After the paste dries, a transparent seam is created, almost invisible on paper under dry leaves.

PVA

PVA is used to create panels on a paper, cardboard or fabric basis. Adheres well to paper and cardboard. After drying, it does not leave stains, does not turn yellow. The consistency of PVA is liquid and thick. A thick mixture is more convenient to work with.

Transparent glue for decoupage

This is a special store composition that combines glue and varnish in one bottle. It is suitable for voluminous crafts from dry leaves. For example, vases, lamps, small decor.

The mixture is first applied to the base for gluing dry vegetation, and the second time over the craft. After drying, a protective film is formed on the craft. Glue shows itself well on a wooden, glass base, on leaves and napkins for decoupage.

Hot glue and heat gun

Large autumn compositions in the form of baskets, wreaths and just crafts are glued together with hot glue.

When working, you must follow the safety rules, since the glue gun is very hot and can cause burns.

With a heated composition, individual leaves and whole plants are glued to the base, you can also put branches, leaf cuttings in the glue itself to give the craft volume. Hot glue can stick the leaves to any base. After drying, a whitish-transparent seam is created, so it is recommended to hide it under the glued material or use it in small portions.

Super glue

The tool is used only by adults. Superglue has a strong toxic smell of cyanoacrylate, which can irritate mucous membranes, cause allergic reactions, chemical eye burns after prolonged contact with its vapors.

If used carelessly, superglue can stick fingers together. Separating them is hard and painful.

Superglue sets quickly, so you need to lay the leaves on the base in the correct sequence in a pre-selected position, since there is practically no time for correction.

How to glue tree leaves

It is quite difficult to work with leaves, because of their fragility, the material must be handled carefully, strictly following the sequence of actions.

Gluing whole leaves

  • Leaves are sorted separately into large and small.
  • All material is turned over with the convex side with veins towards the bottom.
  • PVA glue is applied to the smooth surface of the material. For large sheets, a brush is used, and for small sheets, the adhesive is applied by dripping.
  • If markings are made on the basis, the sheets are stacked strictly along it in a pre-planned sequence. To make the craft alive, a material with a smooth color transition is used. The richest palette of colors in the leaves of poplar and viburnum. They manage to create drawings with shadows.
  • Excess mixture is removed with a napkin.
  • The sheet is pressed against the base by hand and left alone until completely dry.

sticking pieces

Due to the strong brittleness of the dried leaves, they often break even during storage. From their fragments, you can form original patterns in the form of stars, raindrops or paths. An interesting option is gluing the mosaic. To revive the background of the craft, finely crumbled multi-colored sheets are used.

  • On paper, the markup of the future pattern or drawing is done.
  • In pre-designed places or according to the markings, glue is smeared.
  • Multi-colored crumbs are densely poured onto the treated area.
  • The crumb is covered with a dry napkin on top and lightly pressed with a hand to eliminate excess glue.

The result is an original drawing. Crushed leaves glued to the base visually resemble a mosaic.

We make applications from leaves. I draw part of the image, and the Chief Reader sticks the leaves on the glue stick. This is how the hedgehog gets quills

But the butterfly has wings

It is possible and vice versa. First, the Chief Reader glues the leaves, and then I finish the details.

We stamp rowan berries with red gouache

We make rowan beads for grandmother. I don’t attach a photo with a needle, because the item is not safe, although it is already managed quite well under supervision

Let's print the leaves. To do this, we put them under thin paper and shade them flat with wax crayon. I glue the sheet to the table with tape so that it does not move and the outline is not smeared.

Get super fast postcards

We leave white traces of leaves. We glue the leaves to the paper with double-sided tape, go to the bathroom and splatter everything with paint with a toothbrush. Then we wash and peel off the leaves

We sculpt plasticine applications: rain, birds and fly agaric dots

hedgehog needles

leaf fall

mountain ash

We feed the birds with grains, we store nuts for the squirrel for the winter, we hang the harvest on the apple tree

Making birch stripes, identifying the birch trunk by the leaves

We draw a tree. We blow ink out of the tube - we get a trunk, we stamp the leaves with a cotton swab

The first tree is with me, the second is completely the Main Reader

After each craft, we usually draw with our fingers on an arbitrary topic.

We write on a wet sheet with watercolors the picture "Rain is crying". It is better to moisten the sheet under a tap or a soft sponge, write at an angle, and take a flat and wide brush

Another option for rain is in the night sky. We paint over the sheet with different colors, if we painted with paint - we wait until it dries. We rub with paraffin (any candle will do) and cover with ink (this part of the Main Reader just loves). Sushi

We take a wooden stick and scratch the rain. From this occupation, my Reader simply cannot be torn off)

Coloring the leaves

At the same time we repeat warm and cold colors - a bouquet for Autumn and Winter

Collecting herbarium. We use a photo album with film for the children's herbarium, and quickly, and the exposure is changeable, and tree cards can be selected for leaves / fruits

We make a crown for the autumn princess. Sticking the leaves on tape

We plant mushrooms from chestnuts (dad cut them out) in a clearing of plasticine

Making postcards for friends. Glue the leaves onto the paper with glue-pencil, glue the maple leaf stencil on top, you're done!

Stencils can be any, for example, oak

or just an oval frame (here they combined it with a fragment of the painting "crying rain")

We glue the contour of the tree with autumn natural materials. We have acorn caps with plasticine inside and a crumb of dry leaves for glue, but anything will do - seeds, mountain ash, snubs

We make apple stamps. From the chaos on a huge sheet, you can then selectively cut into small cute postcards

Making autumn stained glass. We glue the leaves on the glass with double-sided tape, we even before these lined the glass on the door with black stained glass paint

We draw "paper batik". We make an autumn pattern on paper with hot wax, and then let the baby color the sheet. The pattern shows through

Cut out autumn garlands from leaves. The Chief Reader cuts out only circles and fringes for now, the rest is mine)

Making leaf prints. We color the leaves from the side of the veins (with fingers or a brush), and print on paper

One sheet can be printed multiple times

An easy option for kids is to make an aquarium. To do this, you should take blue cardboard and small leaves that resemble fish in shape. A mixture of buckwheat and peas will help to depict the pebbles.

Different materials can be used to fix leaves on paper. To achieve good results, it is necessary to strictly observe the technique of making crafts.

1. For crafts, small or medium-sized leaves are more suitable. As well as all kinds of berries (for example, mountain ash), dried flowers, seeds and herbs, spices that any housewife has in the kitchen (peppercorns, allspice and cloves). To highlight the details of the application and its background, you can use pencils, felt-tip pens and paints.

2. Before doing leaf applique, prepare materials for crafts. The leaves collected in the forest or park must be thoroughly dried. To do this, simply iron them with a warm iron, having previously laid paper on both sides. After that, remove the top layer of paper and let the leaves dry completely.

True, this method of preparing the leaves is not suitable if you are making an application with a small child. Yet such a fragile material as dry leaves is more suitable for older children. In babies, the leaves will literally crumble in their hands. In this case, it is better to make an application from undried leaves, and then dry the finished composition.

3. Before gluing the leaves onto cardboard or a sheet of paper, make a barely noticeable pencil sketch of the future application on it. So the child will better imagine the future composition and more accurately glue the details of the application to the paper.

4. As for the glue, the usual stationery is suitable, which must be applied to the sheet with a very thin layer or dripped with liquid glue in several places on the sheet.

5. You can start making the simplest applications already with a one and a half year old baby, gradually complicating the plot.

How to make a leaf applique

1. Mark with a simple pencil the location of the future application.

2. Take prepared leaves. They must be taken with caution. Teach your baby to do this with tweezers or one finger dipped in water.

3. Now you need to glue the leaves to the cardboard. If the leaves are not too dry, then apply the glue directly to them, and if they are dried, then the surface of the cardboard should be covered with glue.

4. After the application is completely ready, cover it with a napkin and put it under the load for a day (for example, under a stack of books).

Leaf applications: ideas

To kids

For the little ones, simple stories are suitable. Ask your child to build from leaves everything that he saw during a walk, for example, trees. Help him glue small leaves (birch or aspen) to the album sheet or cardboard, and draw the twigs and the trunk with paints or felt-tip pens.

Children 3-4 years old

Older children can complicate the task - to think about what or who this or that leaflet looks like. You can not only make some kind of animal or bird, but also create a whole plot, for example, a bird sitting on a branch or a cute hedgehog with mushrooms on its back.

Preschoolers

With preschoolers you can make leaf applications several trees at once (aspen, birch, maple, mountain ash). These can be simple compositions of one figure, and more complex ones, consisting of several figures. From colorful leaves, you can make a beautiful postcard, and a bookmark, or something else useful.

Create beautiful applications with your child - you can then make a whole art gallery out of them.
